I just returned home from my short trip in Kat's hometown - Kluang, Malaysia(a town and district located roughly about 110km north of Johor Bahru). It was a short 2 days 1 night trip, but it was a great experience. I didn't take any pictures during the trip because I didn't bring my camera and phone. Oh wells. Back to the post:
Saturday
I met Zac and Lynn around 8am at Aljuinied MRT station on Saturday before heading to Queens Street, near Bugis, to take the express bus into JB. Taking the express bus to JB beats taking the SBS bus at woodlands because firstly, you get to sit instead of stand and it's alot faster. The journey from Queens Street to JB took just 1 hour!
The new JB custom is 150% better than the old one. Now we no longer have to queue in the stupid, stuffy and dark custom. The new custom is damn clean, bright and has air-con! Thumbs up for the new custom! LOL
In JB, we alighted at Larkin interchange and bought tickets to Kluang. The journey to Kluang from JB took 2 hours. And I recommend taking S&S International Express bus to Kluang because the bus is pretty comfy. The 2 hour bus ride only costs us $7.50RM.
Met up with Kat at Kluang interchange and had our lunch at Old Town. The food there isn't too bad and I spent like another $10RM for lunch. After lunch, we walked around and I did my CNY shopping. Bought a t-shirt and a pair of jeans.
At a particular shopping centre, Kluang Mall, there is an indoor safari. No, it's nothing like the "Pet Safari" here in Singapore. This indoor safari is like a mini-zoo in the shopping mall! They had lion, monkeys, racoons, spiders and parrots there. There were other animals there too but I can't recall the species. It's such a pity I didn't bring my camera. Blah!
However, I feel that the animals were very pityful. They were stuck in a small cage and the lion was chained up. If the lion's chain broke, I think we(including the caged animals) would be dead.
After looking at the animals, we continued our shopping. We had tea-break at Wall's St. Cafe before taking a taxi to Kat's village. We alighted at Kat's uncle's shop to greet them as they are the ones who provided us the lodging.
They managed to physco me to drive her uncle's car because the distance between the shop and their place was far. Driving in Malaysia is damn scary because of the road conditions - damn rocky and narrow. With luck on our side, the people and the car were left unscratched after the trip.
After putting our stuff and slacking in the house, we drove around because Kat had some errands to run before heading to have dinner at the shop. Kat's grandma cooked for us. It's been awhile since I ate home-cooked food. Kinda miss eating at home when my grandparents were alive.
As soon as we were done with dinner, we went to eat Zac's "hum" before heading back to the shop. I'm not really a fan of "hum", but the ones there tasted good. They don't have the funny smell and tastes like the ones in here.
At the shop, Kat's uncle helped me trim my hair(her uncle runs a salon) before we headed back the the house. Not too long after we reach the house, Zac was complaining that he was hungry. We then drove out to have some muslim food. We had mee soto and satays. The mee soto there is very different from Singapore's. The gravy for mee soto in Malaysia isn't thick. It's more like soup.
Met Kat's friend while we were eating and he joined us. We then saw some one bbq-ing "ba kwa". So he helped us take some samples to try before we decide to buy. It tasted not bad and each of us bought half a kilo before heading back to the house to rest.
Sunday
Woke up around 11am and slacked in the house till 12pm. Kat's uncle came over to fetch us out. We had lunch at one of the coffee shops nearby before taking a bus from the shop to the interchange. We had another half an hour to spare at the interchange, so Lynn and I went shopping while Kat and Zac slacked at a coffee shop. Bought another t-shirt there. After shopping, we bid farewell to Kat and headed back to Singapore.
Well, that's all for the trip. If I can get some pictures from Kat, then I'll upload them. *hinting to Kat* =X
Got to go now. Heading the the pasar malam near my place to buy some stuff. Will update soon!
